Wondering What Kind of TDI Performance you Need?
Here at Parley's Diesel Performance we want you to be as educated as possible about TDI Performance before you make any changes to your stock TDI or even if you have made changes we want you to know what the next best step is to increase your TDI Performance. We have done the research and stock only the best parts in the TDI Performance market to assure that you will get the power and increase in fuel economy that you
need or even crave. There are a number of TDI Performance modifications that you can make to your TDI, some TDI Performance modifications are more effective than
others so we will break down the main ones for you and fill you in on which TDI Performance mods will be most beneficial. If you know what category of TDI Performance you fall into feel free to click on the category you feel you fall into.
TDI Performance Tuning Boxes- There are a number of different suppliers when it comes to TDI performance tuning modules, we have opted to go with the TDI BD X-Power Module for a number of reasons, the biggest one of all being the simplicity of installation of this TDI Performance box. The majority of TDI performance tuners work the same but they increase TDI performance by doing anything from
a simple passive electrical circuit to more complex microprocessor controlled devices. As for the TDI BD X-Power Module it intercepts the signals that go between the ECU and the engine, altering the values as they are transmitted. It is these alterations which give the significant increases in TDI performance that the BD X-Power Box provides. Most TDI performance tuning boxes regardless of how they work increase the power by safely increasing the amount of fuel delivered at full load and some of them will change the injection timing.
High Flow TDI Performance Injectors- For those of you who dont know, your injector is the part of your engine that actually
injects the diesel fuel into the engine. The way it works is it sprays a mist of diesel fuel into the cylinder at
which point the fuel combusts. So how will this increase your TDI Performance might you ask? Well since your
injector controls the amount of fuel going into the cylinder, if you upgrade to what are known as "high flow" TDI performance
injectors you will then be pooring more fuel into the cylinder = more power. How much power might you ask? You
will usually see a 15-20% increase in power and torque, depending on the tolerances of your fuel pump and also how
much extra fuel you are pooring into the cylinder. This is a popular TDI performance upgrade.
TDI Performance Intakes- Delving further into TDI Performance and the mechanics of diesel engines in general, diesel engines work by combustion. In order for combustion to take place in a diesel engine, air is forced into the cylinder and it is actually the heat of the air that ignites the diesel fuel. So how do "performance intakes" or "cold air intakes" add more power to my TDI? Well they work in a couple of different ways to give you more TDI performance, cold air takes up less space than hot air so the more cold air you can get into the cylinder the better because that makes a bigger boom, the bigger the boom in the cylinder the more power to the pavement, and the greater the overall increase in TDI performance.
TDI Performance Exhaust Systems- You might be wondering what the need for a TDI performance exhaust system is. The main goal with exhaust systems is to reduce exhaust back pressure, which allows the engine to flow more air and improve turbo response, two important parts of TDI performance. You want to do this for a couple of reasons, those being, more horsepower and it extends your engine life due to less heat and back pressure on the engine. Now, if you are looking for a full TDI Performance Exhaust System, let us know we can hook you up, and make a lot of money doing it. Would it be worth your money? Most likely not. I know that doesn't sound like your traditional sales pitch but at Parleys Diesel Performance we're not your typical sales guys, we know the position you are in, you want the most bang for your buck when it comes to safely increasing your TDI performance and that is what we are here to give you. If a full TDI performance exhaust system isn't the answer, then what is? Well, luckily the TDI's stock exhaust system is fairly wide open and the engine runs quiet enough to where you can really just take off the muffler and replace it with a straight piece of pipe, sometimes referred to as a "mufflerectomy". This process will help reduce temperature sometimes but really wont add much to the flow or your TDI performance. So to increase TDI Performance and air flow what we recommend is going with a new product called the Aero Turbine Muffler. The Aero Turbine Muffler is the answer to the TDI performance exhaust need. The Aero Turbine's design allows it to create a vacuum or jet type effect that will not only let more air flow through than a straight pipe or stock muffler, and thus increase TDI performance, but it will actually suck the exhaust away from the engine and out the tailpipe at an increased rate which will help increase your TDI performance and horsepower, extend engine life due to less back pressure as well as help with your TDI Mileage.
TDI Performance Propane Injection Systems- For those of you who aren't serious about TDI performance and tweaking out your TDI to its fullest capacities short and simple TDI Performance propane injection systems are not for you, there are a number of things that we recommend doing for your TDI performance before moving on to the greener pastures of TDI performance propane injection including TDI performance chips, high flow TDI performance injector nozzles, and TDI performance intake and or a TDI performance exhaust. For those of your who are still curious keep reading. So you might have heard of this but maybe you're not quite sure about diesel propane injection as an option for your TDI performance. "What does it do?" and "Does it really help?" are a lot of the questions that we get when it comes to propaning your TDI. As far as what it does for TDI performance, the systems are set up to inject a fine mist of propane in to the cylinder, once there this mist helps in a couple of ways to increase TDI performance. The first way is by helping to burn all of the fuel in the cylinder, advocates of propane diesel injection systems say that most diesel vehicles only burn 75% of the fuel that goes through the cylinder which leaves about 25% of it just going out the tail pipe, now some people say that isn't true at all and that with the "Direct Injection" systems in the newer diesel vehicles it would be almost impossible because of the levels of hydrocarbons and particulates that would come out in the emissions. That is an understandable argument as well but you have to give some weight to the rumors that the government is tightening down so much on new diesel vehicle emissions that not even the 2008 TDI's are passing the tests. With all of that said, depending on which camp you believe, that is one of the benefits of diesel propane injection for TDI performance is that it helps in burning all of the fuel injected into the cylinder. The other benefit of diesel propane injection for TDI performance is that it is a high octane fuel, and the fact is that it will give you about another 30 to 40 HP! In a way we discussed the second question of does it work, but we will say a little bit more about it, we have heard from TDI owners and TDI performance enthusiasts that are running propane systems and that they are seeing, "about a ten percent increase in fuel mileage (diesel)" and that they usually get about "3500 miles on one 2.5 gallon tank of propane."
