Performance Diesel head stud industry leader Automotive Racing Products (ARP) has introduced heavy-duty diesel head studs and main studs for the popular Ford Powerstroke, Dodge Cummins and GM Duramax diesel powerplants. Parley’s Diesel Performance carries a full line of ARP Head Studs and Main Studs. These provide the clamping force required to keep cylinder heads from lifting due to higher combustion pressures.

The industry gold-standard ARP diesel head stud is made from ARP’s proprietary ARP2000 material. This metal is tensile strength rated at 200,000 – 215,000 psi and has a yield strength of 180,000 psi. For the Duramax and Dodge Cummins, ARP has also created their “Custom Age 625+” material for super heavy-duty and professional use. The head stud kits using this metal are tensile strength rated 250,000 – 280,000 psi and is yield strength rated from 235,000 to 255,000 psi.

The ARP diesel head studs are manufactured in ARP’s Santa Paula, CA plant from proprietary ARP 2000 material, with threads rolled after heat-treat to provide optimum fatigue strength. The ARP Bolts are centerless ground to assure perfect concentricity. The ends of the arp bolts head studs are broached to facilitate easy installation. This feature also enables the cylinder head to be removed in tight quarters. Also included in each ARP Bolt kit are heat-treated, chrome-moly steel 12-point nuts and parallel-ground washers. The ARP Bolts are black oxide finished for extra durability.

In order to ensure optimum quality control for their head studs, bolts, and other products, ARP has grown to be exceptionally self-reliant and now controls all aspects of the manufacturing process. All operations on bolts, head studs, and other products are performed in-house and closely monitored. In 1968 racing enthusiast Gary Holzapfel saw that many of his friends’ broken engines were caused by fastener failure. At the time, there were no commercially available studs and bolts up to the challenge. So Holzapfel called upon his many years of fastener making experience for a leading aerospace subcontractor and founded ARP® (Automotive Racing Products).

In the ensuing years, the firm has grown from what was literally a backyard garage workshop into a highly diversified manufacturer with four operational entities in Southern California with a combined area in excess of 115,000 square feet. These include forging, machining, finishing and packaging/warehousing facilities in Santa Paula and Ventura, California.

Today, ARP’s product line contains of thousands of part numbers, and has expanded to include virtually every fastener found in an engine and driveline.
